First/Second Grade

Last week I sent home the Snack Schedule through Dec.  The first weeks snack will be from Christopher Cortes.  The schedule is in your child's Manatee Book, and Ms. Christle has a copy also.

Handwriting:  This week we will focus on the upper and lower case
E through J.  We are also still practicing our names.

Language/Spelling- Centering on good sentences, we will use spelling words.  We will do fill-in sentences, rhyming word practice and our second spelling dictation. 
Spelling words are:  as  has  fox  box  mix  egg  jam  pet  nap  big

Writing:  We had a homework assignment last week called "About Me".
This week the students will put in on paper, using proper sentences, and punctuation, illustrate themselves, and on Friday share their story in our first "Author's Chair".

Math:  First Grade:  Focus on more than, less then.  Making combinations of 6, 7, and 8.
          Second Grade:  Subtraction concept, writing subtraction sentences, and showing a subtraction sentence also in pictures.

Reading Strategies:  Reviewing schema, questioning and this week we will begin doing comparisons of text-to-self, how a story relates to our experiences. 

Social Studies:  Being Responsible!  Being Accountable! Learning From Our Mistakes and Dealing With Anger.  We will read the story, Lazy Jack and The Selfish Alligator and discuss how those stories relate to the above concepts. 

Art:  Focusing on patterns again, the students will decorate a corn shape on graph paper and remember to use a pattern.  We will add leaves and you'll see them on our walls!
